He has contributed to magazines and newspapers around the country including, Modern Drunkard Magazine, San Diego Reader, The San Diego Union-Tribune, The Stranger (in Seattle), Tucson Weekly, Cleveland Scene, Creative Loafing (Atlanta), and San Diego CityBeat, the latter of which runs his sarcastic, some-what impolite column called Sordid Tales.

Decker grew up in Monroe, New York where he worked in the produce department of a large supermarket chain and floundered without direction. In 1985, he moved to San Diego where he worked as a drunken bartender in several renowned concert venues.
