SD POETRY & ART SERIES HOST TAKES TURN AT MIC

FOR RELEASE OF NEW BOOK

Michael Klam, Ocean Beach resident and host of The Poetry & Art Series at The Museum of The Living Artist at Balboa Park since 2001, finally steps up to the microphone to present his newly anticipated collection titled Emma and the Buddha FrogKlam’s performance will include a slideshow of artwork from the book by local artists David Lonteen, Ron Moya, and Emily Larlham.  A marriage of text and images, Emma and the Buddha Frog will become a delectable multimedia visual-verbal fest.

A freelance journalist (San Diego CityBeat, The Daily Transcript, La Prensa San Diego) and teacher, Klam is also a successful slam poet.  He received a perfect score in 2002 for his performance of “The Inner Flojo” at the National Poetry Slam in Minneapolis.  During his six years as host of The Poetry & Art Series, he has cultivated a collaboration between the spoken word and the visual arts communities – a beautiful concept that Puna Press extols in Emma and the Buddha Frog.

Klam’s deft and clever use of words along with his offbeat outlook brings forth the poetic, lyrical and absurd in every situation, even auto accidents.  Tenderness seeps from pages in meditations about love and family, while his caustic wit and eye for the politically preposterous takes aim at our current administration.  Klam will have only two performances for his new release, so come early, grab a seat, and even sign up for your own stage time during the available open mic portion of the evenings.

Klam’s first performance will be Monday, November 12th, 6pm at Drunk Poets Society, hosted by the beautiful Ola Hadi, at Winston’s Beach Club located at 1921 Bacon Street, Ocean Beach.  His second performance will be Thursday, November 15th, 7pm at The Poetry & Art Series at The Museum of The Living Artist, House of Charm in Balboa Park located at 1439 El Prado, San Diego ($5 Cover).  For further information, contact Winston’s at (619) 222-6822 or The Museum of The Living Artist at (619) 236-0011.
